Grating-coupled excitation of high-phase-speed Dyakonov surface waves

Excitation of high-phase-speed Dyakonov surface waves guided by a surface-relief grating made uniaxial dielectric material was theoretically studied using the rigorous coupled-wave approach for illumination p - and/or s -polarized plane waves. The absorptance at fixed value free-space wavelength plotted against polar angle incidence, and peaks were correlated with solution dispersion equation underlying canonical boundary-value problem Dyakonov-surface-wave propagation. Both can excite No, one, or multiple excitations are possible, depending upon structural parameters grating. wave as specular Floquet harmonic also appears possible.
